“Glasschliff in Deutschland / Glass Cutting in Germany” is a 196 page, 9″x8.5″ softcover written by Gernot H. Merker and published in 1989 by Bergbau- und Industriemuseum Ostbayern. Most of the text is in both German and English, but some is only in German. It provides a history of the German glass cutting industry, describes the techniques used, and shows close to 130 examples. There are many black-and-white illustrations. The book is in good condition, with scuffed cover, a few small spots at front bottom, two small indentations to the back, cocked spine, small pencil marks to the half-title page. Linford Cut Glass Company, Jamestown, NY 1899 cut glass catalog. This company and its principals are a case study of the challenges faced trying to found a startup company when the American Brilliant Cut Glass movement was in its heyday. The publication contains the fresh-to-us design drawings of the firm’s foreman and designer, one William Warren Winchester. He was a talented cutter and designer, who at one point in his career after being trained in the Corning, NY shops worked for Libbey at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Reprinted in 2010. Some of the patterns shown are Beauteous, Imperial, Florentine, Mayville, Palmetto, etc. This soft cover book is a brand new, 84 page spiral bound reprint.
